„1910 – The First Romanian Baptist Church was organized in Cincinnati , Ohio, under the direction of rev. R.C. Igrisan.

– 53,008 Romanians immigrated to the United States during the decade of 1901-1910

„1911 – The First Romanian parochial school opened in Scalp Level, Pennsylvania.

– Publisher George Ungureanu of Cleveland, Ohio , started a weekly called Foia Poporului . It was published without interruption until the end of the 40s”

1908-1909 – The newspaper  „America” was purchased by the Union of Romanian  Beneficial and Cultural Societies, and became the official organ of the Union. In the meantime,  the newspaper „Romanul” was sold by Reverend Lucaciu to a group of professional  journalists who started a strong campaign against the newspaper „America” and the leadership of the Union.
1909 – Three new benevolent societies – „Unirea”,  Avram Iancu ( named after a 19th century Romanian patriot from Transylvania ), and Perivolea ( named after a Romanian village in Greece ) – were founded in the New York City. These societies were very influential during several decades,  and had ramifications in the United States as well as abroad.

1905 – Romanians of Catholic faith built their first church (St. Helen’s) in Eastern Cleveland, Ohio, and founded their first newspaper Romanul( The Romanian) under the auspices of Reverend Epaminonda Lucaciu.

1906 – The Union of Romanian Beneficial and Cultural Societies was founded. It attracted dozens of organizations in the following years, mainly through the efforts of the tireless pioneer Ioan Popaiov.

– September 1. America, the first Romanian Orthodox newspaper, was published in Cleveland, Ohio, by Reverend Moise Balea.

1904 – The first Romanian Orthodox Parish (St. Mary’s)  was organized in Cleveland, Ohio, by Reverend Moise Balea.

December 11. The Unirea Romana (Romanian Unity) Lodge fromYoundstown, Ohio, dedicated its American flag. It was the first American flag dedicated by any Romanian organization in this country.

1903  – ” Tribuna( The Tribune ) , the first romanian newspaper in the United States appared in Cleveland, Ohio, only for three times to allow its owners to issue stock.

September 13 . Farserotul ( The Farshart – ian) , the first Macedonian Romanian organization , was founded  in New York trough the efforts of Nicolae Cican. Farshart ( Greeck Macedonia ) was  the native place of those who founded the organization.”

413acxgv4jl__sl500_ss500_Am cumparat recent o carte care parea pierduta printre “rafturile” istoriei. Am descoperit in ea lucruri interesante despre romanii din America. Asa ca m-am gandit sa le impartasesc si cu voi.  In a treia postare  am ramas la anul 1901.
1902 – First Romanian mutual aid and cultural societies – Vulturul (The Eagle) in Homestead, Pennsylvania, and Carpatina ( The Carpathian) in Cleveland, Ohio, – were founded by pioneers Ion Martin and Ion Sufana.

413acxgv4jl__sl500_ss500_Am cumparat recent o carte care parea pierduta printre “rafturile” istoriei. Am descoperit in ea lucruri interesante despre romanii din America. Asa ca m-am gandit sa le impartasesc si cu voi.  In a doua postare am ramas la anul 1882.
1892 – George Zolnay (1863-1949), renumit sculptor, a venit in Statele Unite si in scurt timp a devenit membru in comisia de arta a World Columbian Exposition din Chicago.

1900 – Inceputul unui mare val de imigrare compus din romani din Transilvania, Banat, Bucovina, Moldova si Macedonia(Grecia). Emigrantii au parasit locurile natale motivati fiind de conditiile economice, sociale si politice precare.

1901 – Noii emigranti se stabilesc in si in jurul oraselor industrializate ca New York, Philadelphia, Chicago,Detroit, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Minneapolis, Youngstown, Newark, St, Louis, Los Angeles and San Francisco.

1901 – Petru Glafirescu deschide primul restaurant romanesc in New York. Restaurantul servea ca loc de intalnire pentru noii emigrantii si a jucat un rol important in consolidarea comunitatii romanesti. Societatea „Dorul” , una dintre primele organizatii sociale si culturale romano-americane, a fost fondata in restaurantul lui Glafirescu doi ani mai tarziu.
